Opuha Water has decided to utilise this week’s forecasted rainfall and resulting higher river flows to release an artificial fresh into the Opuha River. Recent river viewings/surveys have shown undesirable levels of didymo and algae growth within the river system and we believe an artificial fresh would be hugely beneficial to the river as we enter the summer months.
The artificial fresh is scheduled to be released from the Opuha Downstream Weir at approximately 9.30am on Thursday 23 October. This will see river levels rise slightly as it passes downstream and river users are to be vigilant and be aware of fluctuating water levels for 24 hours after this time.
