Dam Safety Manager

Dam Safety Manager
Full-time – based in Pleasant Point, South Canterbury

  • Do you want an exciting opportunity to champion dam safety?
  • Do you have a solid understanding of what great dam safety should look like?
  • Are you results driven?
  • Are you a great team player?

Opuha Water Limited (OWL) offers a great opportunity for someone to provide the necessary leadership skills to ensure our key asset, the Opuha Dam, continues to be the community-enabling asset it currently is, well into the future.

OWL is a progressive infrastructure and irrigation co-operative company in South Canterbury. We own and operate Opuha Dam, Power Station, and associated Irrigation Distribution System. We have been part of our community for more than 20 years, delivering significant environmental and community benefits during this time.

OWL works with a very precious natural resource – Fresh Water and we take our obligations seriously when it comes to its management. As a small and dedicated team, we are passionate about what we do and how this enables community and environmental prosperity.

The effective management of Dam Safety involves a wide range of skills and attributes; you will know what these are and how they can be best deployed to create real value. The Dam Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring appropriately competent personnel (internal and external) are engaged to oversee and implement all elements of our Dam Safety Management System, and that all involved parties understand, and are competent to carry out, their roles and responsibilities.

OWL will soon start an exciting period of enhancements and refinements to the Opuha Dam that will ensure this asset is fit for purpose for generations to come. The Dam Safety Manager will play a key part in these workstreams with visible and measurable results that will provide ongoing job satisfaction and opportunities for professional growth. You will also champion all the policy, processes and documentation that is part of business-as-usual dam safety management, including adherence to existing, and any new dam safety regulations.

We have high expectations of our team members. You’ll have a great attitude that is underpinned by the genuine desire to do the best possible job for the team, our shareholders, and the environment.

If you love a challenge, this is a perfect role for you in a great work environment, in a great part of New Zealand, with variety and plenty of scope for you to demonstrate your skills.
